The program is implemented at the facilities of the Dept. of Physical Education and Sports Science (in Komotini) of the Democritus University of Thrace and requires limited physical presence for the entire training time, while the remaining educational process is completed by distance learning. The duration of studies for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma is set at three (3) semesters.
In more detail, the requirements of the program are:
First semester of intensive courses:
A four-day period in November of each year (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday) is held in person with everyone physically present at the program location. The remaining lectures are held using the distance learning method (video lectures, synchronous lectures, asynchronous lectures and synchronous discussions (forum)) throughout the semester. The winter semester exams are held in the first fifteen days of February (distance learning method).
Second semester of intensive courses:
A four-day period in March or April of each year (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday) is held in person with everyone physically present at the program location. The remaining lectures are held using the distance learning method (video lectures, synchronous lectures, asynchronous lectures and synchronous discussions (forum)) throughout the semester. The spring semester exams are held in the first fifteen days of June (distance learning method).
3rd semester
The candidate chooses either to prepare a Master’s Thesis or to attend/complete the Internship. These actions can be implemented either at the location of the program (TEFAA in Komotini) or at a location of the candidate’s choice – and they occupy the entire 3rd semester, provided that the candidate has completed his obligations in 6 courses of the first 2 semesters (attendance and successful examination).
Distance learning course:
Distance learning courses (videotaped, synchronous lectures, asynchronous and synchronous discussions (forum)) are held throughout the academic year. In detail:
Videotaped lectures
With this method, the lecture, which is videotaped, can be watched during the delivery week, at the time and day that the student can.
Synchronous lectures
In “synchronous lectures” the teaching professor and the students are connected via computer (via TEAMS) on predetermined days and times during the semester and the lecture is given by the Professor. The students have visual contact and can participate and ask possible questions at any time.
Asynchronous teaching
With “asynchronous teaching” the candidates can attend, independently of each other, a specific lecture remotely located on a website on a special electronic platform.
Synchronous communication
With “Synchronous distance communication” the teaching professor and the students are connected via computer on predetermined days and times during the semester and hold discussions related to questions that arose from the courses, having mutual verbal communication and simultaneous visual contact.
In addition, postgraduate candidates have the possibility of accessing the Central Library of the University of Thessaloniki from their home. The possibility of acquiring modern (on-line) and asynchronous (off-line) electronic information is given either through the internet or through the information banks of the University Libraries and the libraries of other Departments.
