What are your goals and what are your daily challenges?
- Are you an exercise specialist and do you work in mass sports venues (e.g. gyms) where you deal with cases of pain or injury?
- Are you a coach who wants to reduce injuries and musculoskeletal discomfort in athletes and exercisers?
- Are you a coach and do you come across injured athletes on a daily basis who you need to train for their functional reintegration?
- Are you an exercise specialist who works as a personal trainer?
- Or are you a physical therapist/health professional who deals with injured athletes and exercisers or people with chronic musculoskeletal pain on a daily basis?
- Do you need a postgraduate degree?
Why do a master’s degree?
You probably know the theory, you already apply functional exercise but you need a more specialized, scientifically valid and at the same time applied knowledge.
By studying with us, you achieve the acquisition of a master’s degree from your place of residence while working, and you become a member of a broad university community that suits your interests. We insist on your main goal: we emphasize practice, that is, you learn how to manage exercise programs for injured athletes and trainees in your workplace.
Why study a master’s degree with us? What makes it unique?
The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of Komotini has been a pioneer in our country in postgraduate programs in exercise science for over 20 years and continues its successful course with a program that trains exercise specialists and physiotherapists in practice how to apply functional exercise to manage musculoskeletal problems in athletes, trainees or workers. In this way, you will hear about functional exercise, see applied examples of it and at the same time participate on site.
All this is done under the guidance of University Professors:
- who come from different scientific fields (athletes, orthopedic doctors, physiotherapists, exercise specialists)
- with many years of experience in professional sports teams,
- with significant research work published in reputable scientific journals and at the same time
- with experience in distance education
Program description
Is a study program that is completed in 3 semesters!
The program’s obligations are distributed as follows:
- 8 total courses in the first two semesters that require 2 four-day physical attendance ONLY, and with distance learning in a modern and asynchronous way: that is, sometimes there will be lectures on predetermined days and times and sometimes there will be lectures recorded in video format or posted material.
- In the last semester there is the option of choosing either a Thesis or a Internship in a workplace.
- In this way, you will hear about the functional exercise, see its applied examples and participate in practice.
Program Strengths
Innovative subject matter and content:
It introduces functional exercise at the postgraduate level of studies for the first time in our country, combining intensive study with distance learning.
- It emphasizes from the beginning of the program and throughout its duration the implementation of functional exercise programs in trainees, injured athletes, as well as in categories of workers with common musculoskeletal problems (e.g. office workers).
- It enables the candidate of the selection either to train further in a professional environment of his choice (through internship) or to be introduced to research methods and to deepen his research through the preparation of a scientific thesis.
- Finally, the study program, the lecturers and the students are subject to a continuous evaluation system and collaborate in teaching and research with evaluated Universities abroad.
Organizationally, its innovation is due to the following characteristics:
- It directly connects research data with their application in the areas of practice, presenting the new data to the candidates in two organized scientific events with the participation of Professors and researchers from the Greek and International areas. The candidate has the opportunity to attend these events during his term of office and after its end and to present his own research data himself, completing the circle of knowledge.
- The program is supported by a multitude of scientific publications and electronic sources of bibliography, by laboratory courses and a complete computer network, giving the possibility of access to them to postgraduate students from areas outside the university.
- It is an intensive postgraduate program that requires: implementation of 8 course obligations in one academic year and one semester of Internship or Thesis (candidate’s choice).
- Program candidates have the option of a) adapting part of their studies to time periods that fit their schedule b) attending courses and implementing activities (practical training or scientific thesis) from their place of residence, without requiring their physical presence at the Institution where the program is conducted.
Duration of studies, timetable and cost of study
To obtain the Master’s Degree, at least three (3) semesters of full-time study are required (A, B and C).During this period, the student must have accumulated the necessary teaching credits from the courses and have successfully completed the Master’s Thesis or the Internship.
The courses offered are all mandatory, they will be carried out with intensive attendance, with the methods of teaching in person and distance learning (synchronous and asynchronous teaching).
For teaching by means of distance learning, the percentage of asynchronous distance learning should not be more than 25% of the ECTS of the Master’s Degree.
The postgraduate degree is awarded at the end of the third semester of studies (provided that all postgraduate study obligations have been completed).
The postgraduate student is obliged to complete his/her postgraduate studies within three times the period foreseen for the P.M.S.duration. The financial participation in the P.M.S.amounts to three thousand euros (3000 €) for the entire program in three (3) installments at the beginning of each educational period, with the 1st installment being paid upon registration in the Program.
Postgraduate students are exempt from tuition fees when they meet the income criteria set out in Law 4485/2017 (article 35 par.2).
